Daphne Edwards

About her:

Daphne was born on August 2, 1952 at Ross General Hospital in Kentfield, Marin County, CA. She is the first of twelve children to the union of Reverend John Matt Edwards, Sr. and Emmer Jean Gladney Edwards.

In 1957, her family moved to San Francisco CA, where she attended elementary and junior high school. Again, in 1966, the family moved - this time to Petaluma, Sonoma County, CA. Here, she completed her secondary education in June 1970.

Throughout her school years, Daphne’s teachers recognized her communication talents and encouraged her to write and speak. Subsequently, she composed songs, wrote poetry and prose, and entered various speech competitions. As a member of the collegiate speech team, Daphne excelled and brought home trophies.

It would seem that Daphne would continue in a career, which focused on her communication skills. Instead, she worked in the medical and accounting fields for a few years, exploiting her compassion for people and attention to detail. Thereafter, Daphne began her 27-years-long career in the United States Postal Service.

In the Postal Service, Daphne's outstanding interpersonal, written and oral communication skills were evident. As a computer systems specialist on the help desk, she effectively provided technical guidance by telephone and email to computer end-users of all proficiency levels, spanning from novice to expert.

In addition, for more than two years, Daphne was editor-in-chief of the OnLine, an internal postal newsletter, which held a subscription readership of over 34,000 throughout the United States. Moreover, Daphne studied, researched and compiled enough information to author a workbook and present a seminar for effective telephone communication skills. But, these projects in communication were just part of her job on the Postal Service Customer Support helpdesk.

It was not until she retired in 2004 that Daphne refocused on enhancing her communication skills and embarking on an exciting journey as a communicator.

Daphne recently published her first book of poetry and prose, Did You Say You Are A Christian?, and presents her work as a spoken word artist before Christian groups!
